Peace, Love, & Camouflage

I can always count on my friend, Rian to dress fly. He has that urban hip look to him that usually catches attention. He is one of the guys who has a very unique style here at STJ and he tries not to fit in with the basic trends. This thrifted camouflage vest used to be a jacket, but Rian got tired of everyone having this same style so he chopped the sleeves off and added the white peace sign on the back. Simple but so creative, right? On top of his creativity, he also sketches, designs dope clothes, and re-creates other over-done trends.

On The Edge

Sophomore, Damali Underwood, wore the cutest Harem pants yesterday and wore them right. Usually I see people try to rock these and she is by far one of the cutest. I love how she kept the look on a monochromatic tone, making it seem like she didn't have to try too hard. When I see harem pants, it is normally paired with a blazer, but she even made it nice with a long cardigan. On top of her edgy style, Damali is perfect at sketching anything, making jewelry, sewing pieces together, and just an altogether well rounded artist. This hasn't even been a fave look of hers.
Btw, her hair goes perfect with this outfit!

Bleach Black

One of my favorite blogs to stalk has this D.I.Y iPhone Case. This is really cool. When I get my iPhone, if ever,  I want to try this! And you can, too!

Remember the site I posted before with the D.I.Y studs? Go there, order your studs and get busy- it's simple.

Fashion Is Art

Earlier this week, my friend, Lauren and I ventured to The Museum of Art and Design. I had to go and take pictures for my graphic design class, but happened to stumble upon this piece created by Jang Seung Hyo. This artist portrays images of his life through his art. He placed the images in layers forming this structure, but what really caught my eye was the clothing. It is amazing to see that fashion is everywhere.
Go check out this museum: located 2 Columbus Circle New York, NY
Free with donation every Thurs 6-9

Thrift Thrifting Thrifted

If you have not noticed, thrifting is the new shopping savvy. Every single one of our 'look of the day' models have included an item that they thrifted. Not only does it save money,  but you can find the most unique articles there. It also provides other things that range from jewelry to furniture to electronics. One guy that I modeled with for SwaggerNY (which I cannot model for anything) buys his clothing off Ebay. This is cool if you know your size and how things are going to fit, but I do not know my body type that well so I try and stick to exploring the thirft market.

Here are a couple of online thrifts I have shopped at before:

D.Fame

November In the 60's

We spotted Kristina's conservative, yet glamorous look as she was in a rush today. We could not help but to notice her beige collared button- up that she received while thrifting in Maryland and high-waist shorts (NY&Co) giving her a conservative 60's look to flow with the 60 degrees weather occurring in November. Her black studded flats from Steve Madden are the future of fashion and blend perfectly to give this outfit a bit of edge to this classy look. Also, the way her hair is styled and the add on accessories such as her black tights, studded earrings, and ruby red lipstick set everything in place. This is the future, yet vintage business woman must- have.

Virginia Verocity

We spotted this Virginia native, Alexis walking on the strip, and admired her casual military look.  I loved her rustic nude boots, they are a great alternative to the traditional black color. Combat boots have been a staple fall/winter item for the last two years, and I don't think they're going anywhere. What I liked the most about her outfit was the way she grouped together her shorts, and tights, to add a touch of color she added a pair of Terra cotta colored knee-highs. This is a great way to couple both summer and fall items, while also staying warm. Did you notice the bow detail on her shorts, adorable rings? Aside from her stylish look, Alexis is a freshman, with her eye on the prize during our interview she told us about her shirt designing company Innovative Era. Whatever design you wish to have on a shirt from bleaching to cutting she will do anything you request. If you are looking to have custom shirts made, she is the go-to girl.

Hey Guys, I know it's been a while Raiven and I have been swamped but, we have a few treats for you.Over the past weekend Raiven, I and a two other fellow Saint John's students got the opportunity to be profiled in SwaggerNy's "Campus Crawl" feature. Check them out, and let us know what you think.

Homemade Halloween Costumes

It has been a while since we've updated, but over the past Halloween weekend our friend Alexa's Pocahontas costume was nicely put together by scratch. Her mother made every piece of this costume and it looks as if it were bought at a store. It is amazing how people can design such professional pieces and not want to get involved in the industry. As for accessories, our friend, Damali Underwood, created her necklace from pieces bought at Michaels craft store. She looks just like the real Pocahontas.

Skater Boy

I ran into Joe yesterday and noticed his swagged out look. I thought he was from Cali with this swag of his, but he happens to live in Jersey. His jean jacket, which he thrifted, is to die for. I love how he added the buttons, just like Ayanna (below) did to make it look original, vintage, and just a touch of their own style. I feel like the taupe suede shoes go perfectly with the different shades of blue and the dark pants. The taupe color is actually perfect for any season. Also, his gray and maroon snapback from www.karmaloop.com sets everything in place. We actually shop at a lot of similar places. I'm not sure where he thrifts, but you can get items this good at Buffalo Exchange, Beacon's Closet, and many other places mainly in Brooklyn. Joe also works at Aldo on 5th Ave, so he gets that good 50% discount on their wonderful shoes. Check him out with his skateboard.

Jersey By Nature

My fellow Jersey girl , Ayanna may be little, but definitely stands out in the crowd .Not only is she rocking some of the trendiest pieces for Fall/Winter , including my favorite her olive green high-waist pants. If any of you have not noticed this 80's inspired fashion has and continues to make a strong come back. What I also love about this outfit is the mixing of fabrics, and colors .Adding a pop of color, like Ayanna’s shirt, to a essentially dark outfit is a great way to add some life to your ensemble, but also allows you to use some of your summer pieces for the fall/winters season. To complete her outfit she threw on a jean jacket, creating a more casual, yet vintage look. Let us not forget the combat boots, gold broach, jungle inspired bracelets, and hair accessory.

Beards & Blazers

Mens look of the day: Business man, student, and designer, Clarence, surprised me with his hipster/classy business look today . Normally, I'd see Clarence sporting a more outrageous, yet very put together look. From his fur and print vests, to his salmon colored pants. You would have never guessed he was from Wisconsin with his NY style, he pulls off everyday. To top his look, he dyed his hair this wonderful blonde color , but being the outrageous person he is, he hops to continue his hair journey and go bleach white. On top of that he raps, sings, and is an alumni of the organization Jack and Jill of America. I love his craziness with all the fun fashion he wears. Check out his thrifted look.

Genius Sounds Family

Brandon Fulton is a hot new hip- hop artist along with his fellow fam, Genius Sounds Family. GSF consists of five artists who released an album in September 2011: WellRED, Soul, Alpha Memphis, Vega, And Noah Bility. When Brandon first told me he rapped I didn't believe him because he seemed too innocent, but his innocence kind of flows with his music. This album has a Lupe (The Cool/Food & Liquor), Nas, Common mixed with old-school Kanye flow. Personally, it kind of reminds me of some of the Chicago artists with that smooth rap. Anyone going down that path, will reach success.

Brandon can also model, too. Take a look at his pics. He is actually wearing a NY Yankees Fitted, 10Deep Jacket, Gucci belt, Palladium canvas boots, and graphic tee. Rapping in style ;)

@TheGoodStock

Jamaal Malone aka Pharrell is the leading sales rep for Goodstock clothing. Goodstock is a Virgina based clothing company founded by Printist Parker and Jayme Pounders. Their clothing consists of hoodies, tanks, tees, crewnecks, and logo stickers. However, they take it beyond just selling clothes. They have teamed up with PLNDR and @AlphaMemphis and will be hosting events in the near future. (details below)
I recently took some photos of Jamaal modeling the original Goodstock tee. He matched his tee with a pair of 10Deep black cuffed plaid pant, 10Deep cap, and Palladium canvas boots.
Jamaal is doing a good job getting the company out there, especially through the St. Johns community and New York area by sporting the clothes around campus and taking pictures advertising the brand. They have exploited themselves through their Tumblr, Twitter's, official website, Facebook, and online store. (links posted below) Look out for their upcoming Fall/Winter line.

This Friday (Oct. 28) they will be hosting a Fall fashion and art show in the Rolf Benz Studio in downtown Boston.
